We know that the cost of the rental space is $780 and the price per person for food is $9.75

We have the next equation

y=mx+b

Where,

- y = total budget = $1500

- m = price of food per person = $9.75

- x = number of guests

- b = cost of rental space = $780

Now, replacing the values the equation that represents the situation is

1500=9.75x+780

Now, to know how many people could be invited we must solve the equation for x

\begin{gathered} 1500=9.75x+780 \\ 1500-780=9.75x \\ x=(1500-780)/(9.75)=73.846 \end{gathered}

Finally, as the answer measures people we must approximate the result to the smallest and immediate integer of the value found for x.

So, 73 people can be invited
