3x+5y=9 and x-20y=-62
Multiply the first equation by -4
-4(3x+5y=9) = -12x-20y=-36

Then subtract the two equations:

-12x-20y=-36
-(x -20y=-62)
-13x+0y=26

-13x=26
x=-2

3(-2)+5y=9
-6+5y=9
5y=15
y=3
