3*6 + 2*8 + 1 . . . 18 + 16 + 1 = 35 drinks all together

It seems that Arlene used a correct expression:
3 * 6 + 2 * 8 + 1 =
= 18 + 16 + 1 =
= 35
Answer: Arlene bought 35 drinks altogether.
