The electron transport chain is the site of the most ATP production during cellular respiration. The energy from the movement of electrons reducing and oxidizing specific proteins of the chain, allow the proteins to capture the energy and use it to establish a proton gradient. The flow of protons down into the mitochondria allow for phosphorylation of ADP and an inorganic phosphate to produce ATP.
