The answer is:

C) as I trudged toward the school , my knees quivered and my stomach flipped

Having a more vivid image of what is it like the first day of school is achieved witht he quivering of the knees, and the trudged, walking slowly, almost like you don´t want to do it, the narrator here explains better and gives a better image of what is like to wake up early for the first time after a great summer.

C. "Trudged", "Quivered" and "Flipped" are more evocative and descriptive words describing more visually the narrative of the first day of school.
