(a) If the initial population is 884, this value can be takes as a constant in the formula for the population. If the population grows 56 people per year, the formula is:

P = 884 + 56t

(b) If the population increases 56% per year, then, the formula can be written as an exponential formula. In this case, the result is:

Q = 884(1+0.56)^t

Q = 884(1.56)^t

As you can notice, in both formulas you obtain 884 for t=0.
