Why isn`t the moon saddened by this tragic event in the poem edge?

The moon is not saddened by the tragic event because the moon "is used to this sort of thing." The moon has seen this tragic event happen repeatedly and has become desensitized to the sadness of it.

In the poem the moon is personified as being female and having the ability to be sad even though she chooses not to be. The poem ends with this darkness when it says, "her blacks crackle and drag."
