B. dependent. A little trick to help is to think that it DEPENDS on another sentence, or an INDEPENDENT (doesn't need anything), to make sense

The correct answers would be dependent and subordinate. A subordinate or dependent clause relies on the rest of the sentence in order to express a complete thought. Both subordinate and dependent clause cannot stand on their own and are usually connected to the independent clause with a subordinating conjunction.
