Explanation:

It is 8.5 inches tall after burning for 3 hours.

The length reduced per hour = 10 - 8.5 = 1.5 inches

It is given that after 3 hours candle is 8.5 inches tall, so to find the length after 6 hours we calculate the reduction of of next 3 hours.

In next 3 hours candle will burn = 1.5 × 3 = 4.5 inches

after 3 hours length of candle was = 8.5 inches

after next 3 hours length would be = 8.5 - 4.5 = 4 inches

After 6 hours candle would be 4 inches tall.
