5 inches

Explanation:

"perimeter of 32"

a+b+c = 32

a ≤ b ≤ c

"medium side is 7 more than the short side"

b = a+7

"longest side is 3 times the length of the shortest side

c = 3a

Substitution

a + (a+7) + (3a) = 32

5a = 25

a = 5 inches
