you have a summer job that pays $5.60 an hour. you get $8.40 an hour for overtime (anything over 40 hours). how many hours of overtime must you earn $287?

5.60*40=224
287-224=63
63 divided by 8.40= 7.5
so, if you work a regular 40 hours a week paid at $5.60 an hour, youd make $224. But if you earned $287, you would have to work 7.5 hours over time.

Answer:

Overtime hours = 7.5 hours

Explanation:

Summer job pays for one hour = $5.60

payment for 40 hours = 40 × 5.6 = $224

Let i have worked of x hours as a overtime.

So total payment i received = $224 + 8.40x

My total earnings = $287

Therefore, 287 = 224 + 8.40x

8.4x = 287 - 224

8.4x = 63

x =
(63)/(8.4)=7.5 hours

My overtime hours are 7.5 hours.
