Many of the songs from ancient times through the Renaissance were built on the melodies of previous songs. What were the advantages for composers of using a melody that had already been created?

One of the main advantages of working with music that the artists were already familiar with was the fact that this meant the artists did not need to start from scratch. The beginning of a project is often the most complicated part, as there is little to no guidance for the artists. Therefore, by picking a melody that they were already familiar with, the artists minimized this complication, as well as ensured that the creative process was not interrupted early on in the project.

The advantage for composers of using a melody that had already been created is that they already know what it sounded like. It will be easier to incorporate into the songs that the composers are going to make. This will minimize "writer's block". It is a condition where writers are unable to proceed in their work.
