Answer: B. -2

Explanation:

The given statement : Five more than a number tripled is half the number.

Let the number be x.

Then according to the given statement ,we have the following equation :-

3x+5=(1)/(2)x

Multiply 2 on both sides , we get

2(3x+5)=x\\\\\Rightarrow\ 6x+10=x\\\\\Rightarrow\ 6x-x=-10\\\\\Rightarrow\ 5x=-10\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=(-10)/(5)=-2

Hence, the number is -2.

Formula should be 3x + 5 = 1/2x

Soultion:
3x - 1/2x = -5
2 1/2x = -5 or 5/2x = -5

mutiply 2 to simplify
2(5/2x) = -5 (2)
5x = -10

divide 5 to find the value of x
5x/5 = -10/5
x = -2
