so if it is a parallelogram then the angles will add up to 360° and the angles opposite one another will be equal

we can start by finding y

3y = 42
divide by 3
y = 14

now we know that both angles are equal to 42° so to find the missing angles we must double 42 and subtract is from 360 then divide by 2 to find the individual angle

42 x 2 = 84
360 - 84= 276
276/2 = 138

the angle of 8x - 6 = 138

now we solve for x by first adding 6
8x = 144
then divide by 8
x = 18

so y = 14 and x = 18
