Answer:

Explanation:

The initial information given is 15 minutes = 6 words.

Divide 100 words total by 6 words for 15 minutes. This will give a number to multiply by.

100÷6 = 16 2/3

There are two ways I did this.

Option 1:

Step 1: Multiply both the 15 minutes and the 6 words by 16.

You get 240 minutes=96 words.

Now you need to make the 6 words to 4 words to get to the 100 words.

Step 2: Divide both sides (the 15 and the 6) by 3, and you get 5 and 2. Multiply both the 5 and the 2 by 2 and get 10 and 4. You want the four to get the 96 to 100.

Add that to the partially finished equation (the bolded and underlined).

(240 minutes + 10 minutes) = (96 words + 4 words) = (250 minutes=100 words)

Another way you could do the second step is to just multiply 2/3 by 15 and 6. Much faster.

Option 2:

Much faster and easier.

Multiply the 15 minutes = 6 words by 16 2/3. Change 16 2/3 to mixed number of 50/3 and then save product to calculator memory for easier way.

15 • 16 2/3 = 250 minutes 6 • 16 2/3= 100
