3x16=48

9x2=18

48+18=66

(3)/(16) + (2)/(9)

find a common factor that can make the denominators (bottom number) the same number. In this case, that number is 144 (denominators multiplied (9 x 16) )
Multiple each side to get the denominator to equal 144.


(3)/(16) ((9))/((9)) = (27)/(144) \\ \\ (2)/(9) ((16))/((16)) = (32)/(144)


(27)/(144) + (32)/(144) = (59)/(144)

The sum is
(59)/(144)
