5x^2 - 4x = 6

5x^2 - 4x - 6 = 0

Use the quadratic equation (I attached a photo of it)
Now, you can use this formula to know what to plug into the formula:
ax^2 + bx + c = 0

The easiest way to understand what to plug in is just to put your equation right next to this one:
ax^2 + bx + c = 0
5x^2 - 4x - 6 = 0
So,
A= 5
B= -4
C= -6

So, plug it in a solve. Remember you cannot take the square root of a negative number or 0. If it does not come to a number that is easily square rooted you must simplify it to this for example: 5 times the square root of 7. Also, your answer will be x plus or minus a number. This means that the number could be either negative or positive. If you have anymore questions let me know.

Answer:

x=(2+√(34))/(5) and
x=(2-√(34))/(5)

Explanation:

5x^2-4x=6

To solve for x , we need to get 0 on the right side

Subtract 6 on both sides

5x^2-4x-6=0

Factor the left hand side

To solve for x , we apply quadratic formula

x=(-b+-√(b^2-4ac))/(2a)

The value of a=5, b=-4, c= -6

x=(4+-√((-4)^2-4(5)(-6)))/(2(5))

x=(4+-√(136))/(10)

x=(4+-2√(34))/(10)

Divide top and bottom by 2

x=(2+-√(34))/(5)
