If you subtract 0.5 from 0.485 you are going to have negative number which is the first possible answer why 0.485 is less then 0.5
And to prove that statement 0.5-0.485=0.015
Second possible answer for this question is, if you start comparing all numbers in row before . both have 0 thats the same and right after the 0 first number is 4 the other one is 5. And since we all know 5>4 we dont need to continue compare other numbers after 4

has more water because she has less numbers in the decimals place. It's also because if you take out all the numbers that come after 0.4, and compare it to 0.5, you will see that 0.5 has the greater amount.
