Just divide the top number of the fraction by the lower number and put a negative symbol in front of the decimal figure.

Example:

-1/4 =. 1divided by 4 = .25 = -.25

Answer:

You would still divide numerator by denominator, but keep the negative, even as a decimal

Explanation:

-5/8 = -0.625

Or another way to think about it (in that case) is dividing -5 by 8. you would end with a negative. Hope this helps!
