Answer:

A crane is a machine that is used to move heavy materials both vertically and horizontally. The crane is equipped with cords, ropes or chains that move along the pulleys, transmitting force to lift heavy weights beyond human capabilities.

There are many different types of cranes and each type has specific uses. The smallest cranes are used in workshops, the largest tower cranes in the construction of skyscrapers. Floating cranes can be used to build oil rigs or rescue sunken ships. Cranes are often temporary structures, either attached to the ground or on a mobile structure, such as on a truck (called a mobile crane).
