The Government's role in building and maintaining the nation's infrastructure would be that they have control of what we do as a first world country and making sure that we don't go bankrupt, or run ourselves into the ground. The federal government should be the main source of the funding, however if it's only a state problem than it would be the state and local funds.

One of the most important roles of the government is maintaining a nation's infrastructure. The federal government collects taxes from citizens, and these taxes are meant to be used in order to improve the lives of everyone. Infrastructure is one of the most important aspects of this, as efficient infrastructure allows us to work, travel, play and interact with each other in a safe way.

Both the federal and the state and local governments should provide funding for improvements in an area. Some infrastructural projects are only relevant for a small location (for example, a new local park) while others could have a large impact on several populations (such as a highway). This should be taken into account when establishing the funding of these projects.
