Explanation
- Determine Function or Not Function by Graph.
We can simply find if a graph is a function or not by doing the line test.
Line Test on Graph
- Draw a vertical line on a graph.
- See if a vertical line intercepts one or more points on the graph.
If the line intercepts only one point, that means the graph is a function.
If the line intercepts more than one point, it is not a function but rather a relation.
Example of graphs that are not functions
- Circle Graph
- Any graphs that have more than one y-value for a single x-value. (Example x = 2 but x has more than one y value which is not a function.)
Example of graphs that are functions
- Any graphs that have "function" name. (Ex Linear Function)
- Graphs that have one x and one y value.
