2x + 6y = 20
3x - 2y = 8
I'll just substitute x and y with its corresponding values per option.
A) x = 4 ; y = 2
2(4) + 6(2) = 20 3(4) - 2(2) = 8
8 + 12 = 20 12 - 4 = 8
20 = 20 8 = 8
B) x = 4 ; y = -2
2(4) + 6(-2) = 20
8 - 12 = 20
-4 ≠ 20
C) x = -2 ; y = 4
2(-2) + 6(4) = 20 3(-2) - 2(4) = 8
-4 + 24 = 20 -6 - 8 = 8
20 = 20 - 14 ≠ 8
D) x = 2 ; y = 4
2(2) + 6(4) = 20
4 + 24 = 20
28 ≠ 20
Choice A. x = 4 ; y = 2 is the correct answer.
