A jumbo jet carries 280 passengers, 38 in first class, and the remainder in coach. If the average first class ticket is $710 and the average coach ticket is $236, how much will the airline gross if the plane is full?

Given that there is a total (T) of 280 passengers, of which 38 are in first class (f).

So the number of passengers in the coach (c)is calculate as,

\begin{gathered} \text{c=T}-f \\ \text{c=}280-38 \\ \text{c=}242 \end{gathered}

Also given that the cost of first class ticket (Cf) is $710, and the cost of a coach ticket (Cc) is $236.

So the gross amount (A) of a full plane is calculated as,

\begin{gathered} A=(f* C_f)+(c* C_c) \\ A=(38*710_{})+(242*236) \\ A=(26980)+(57112) \\ A=84092 \end{gathered}

Thus the airline will gross $84092 if the plane is full.
