Direct democracy is the idea whereby citizens in a polis take part in the decisions of the government directly, by voting on specific issues of concern to the government. An example of this would be if a government wanted to pass legislation on a certain issue the citizenry would vote directly on that piece of legislation rather than voting for representatives who would then make decisions about governance.
