A map has a scale of 1 cm : 20 km. Two cities are 2.5 cm apart on the map. To the nearest tenth of a kilometer, what is the actual distance corresponding to the map distance?

so just use the rule of 3 simple

1 cm -------- 20 km
2,5 cm ----- x km
----------------------------

x = 2,5 *20/1 = 50 km

x = 50 km so choice C. is righ,correct sure

That is, the ratio of the scaled distance and actual distance =
(1)/(20)

Let x be the actual distance between the two cities which are 2.5 cm apart on the map,

So, the ratio of scaled distance and actual distance =
(2.5)/(x)


\implies (1)/(20)=(2.5)/(x)


x=20* 2.5


x=50

Hence, the actual distance between the cities is 50 km.

Option 'C' is correct.
