The Supreme Court's ability to interpret the Constitution is called JUDICIAL REVIEW.

Judicial review is practiced when the Supreme Court study the decisions made by the lower courts and may deem said decisions to be unconstitutional and overturning them. Thus, superseding the initial decision of the lower courts.
