3 + 5 = 8

red cars: 3/8 * 240 = 90
blue cars: 5/8 * 240 = 150

ratio of red cars to blue cars: 90:150

simplify:
90 ÷ 30 = 3
150 ÷ 30 = 5

Thus: 90:150 = 3:5
