Take into account that the given figure can be considered as formed by a rectangle and one half of a circle.

Use the following formulas for the areas:

rectangle:

A1 = w*l

w: width = 4 ft

l: length = 8 ft

semircle:

A2 = 1/2 * π*r^2

r: radius = diamterer/2 = 2 ft/2 = 1 ft (consdiered by the dimensions of the up side of the rectangle)

replace the previous values of the parameters into the formulas for the areas:

A1 = (4 ft)(8 ft) = 32 ft^2

A2 = 1/2*(3.14)(1 ft)^2 = 1.57 ft^2

the area of the total figure is:

A = A1 + A2

A = 32 ft^2 + 1.57 ft^2

A = 33.57 ft^2

Hence, the area of the figure is 33.57 ft^2
