The correct answer is
established fur-trading posts and missions along the St. Lawrence River
The Plymouth plantation was created by British colonists while gold was searched for by the Spaniards. French people were into the fur trade and it proved to be very profitable since they often worked together with Native Americans who would help them hunt and send the fur back to Europe.
