Suppose that an object is dropped from a height of h meters and hits the ground with a velocity of v meters per second. Then y=19.6h. We are already told that the velocity with which an object hits the ground is given by

v=\sqrt[]{19.6h}

and we are asked to find the velocity when h = 49.5. To do this we just substitute 49.5 for h in the above equation to get

v=\sqrt[]{19.6*49.5}

which evaluates to (the nearest tenth)

v=31.2

which is our answer!
