9/12 because there are 12 pounds and 9 friends, so you need to divide into smaller groups for each friend.
9/12=0.75
each friend receives about 0.75 pounds of pecans.

9 friends divided by 12 pounds = 0.75lbs per person
(lbs means pounds)
Shows your work: 9/12= 0.75 OR 3/4
