To convert an equation into y = mx + b format, obviously we will need to isolate the y variable on the left side of the equation. We have the equation 6x + 5y = -15 to work with. The first step we will take in converting this equation is to shift the x value to the opposite side. We can do this by subtracting 6x from both sides.

6x + 5y = -15

6x - 6x + 5y = -15 - 6x

Now, we will reorder our terms, since the mx value must come before the b value.
We will also combine any like terms so that our equation is simplified.

6x - 6x + 5y = -15 - 6x

5y = -6x - 15

Now, all we must do is divide both sides of the equation by 5 to isolate the y variable.

5y / 5 = (-6x - 15) / 5

y =
(-6)/(5)x - 3

So there we have it.
