The answer is, it was a spot of bother between USA and The United Kingdom (note not England and not Britain) which has largely been forgotten about in the UK. The UK were fighting a war against Napoleon Bonaparte`s France in Europe. The US got upset because the UK Royal Navy blockaded US ports to stop the US trading with France at that time.
