To do the problem change the denominator for both.
2/5 and 1/3
5 and 3 both have 15 as a common multiple.
5*3=15 and 3*5=15
2*3=6 and 1*5=5
6/15 plus 5/15
11/15

First change them to the same denominator....
2×3 6
__ = __
5×3 15
1×5 5
__ = __
3×5 15
6/15+ 5/15= 11/15.
So the sum is 11/15
