Imperialism, they gained access to resources from other countries since Japan is a mountainous nation with little to no resources.

Japan was known to have a strong modern military force which was comprised of the Army and Navy. It won brief wars against China in 1894-1895 and Russia in 1904-1905.

Japan's sole intent was to try to become a world power and dominate the Pacific. It made its intentions known by attacking the Pearl Harbor and a war with the United States started in which the United States later war with the backing of its allies such as the United Kingdom and Soviet Union
