2x + 8y = 20
y = 2
Substitute y with its value.
2x + 8y = 20
2x + 8(2) = 20
2x + 16 = 20
2x = 20 - 16
2x = 4
x = 4/2
x = 2
x = 2; y = 2
2x + 8y = 20
2(2) + 8(2) = 20
4 + 16 = 20
20 = 20

if y is equal to 2 then you can find x by putting 2 for y so you will have:
2x + 8(2) = 20
2x + 16 = 20
2x = 20 - 16
2x = 4
x = 4/2
x=2 :)))
i hope this is helpful
have a nice day
