the product of two consecutive positive even integers is 14 more than their sum. set up an equation thatc an be used to find the numbers and solve it

lets say the first # is x.
the second # would be x +2 because that would make it the next even integer.
so the equation would be x*x+2 =x+x+16.
(16 is from the fact that the product of the # is 14 more than the sum and the x + 2.)

x^2+2x=2x+16 (we can cancel out 2x on both sides)

x^2=16

x= + or - 4. square root of 4 can be + or - 4.

for this example x cant be four because we are taking about positive even integers.

x=4
