a) Write down the second and third terms of the following sequences. (i) Rule: To get the next term subtract 3 from the previous term. First term = 17. 17 (ii) Rule: To get the next term multiply the previous term by 5 and then add 2. First term = 3. 3 b) Here are the first four terms of another sequence. 6 11 16 21 Write an expression for the nth term of this sequence.

a) i)

Given that the first term of the sequence is 17 and to get the next term we have to subtract 3 from the previous term.

So, the second term will be 17 - 3 = 14.

The third term will be 14 - 3 = 11.

ii)

Given that the first term of the sequence is 3 and to get the next term we have to multiply the previous term by 5 and then add 2.

So, the second term will be 5x3 + 2 = 17.

The third term will be 5x17 + 2 = 87.

b)

The given sequence is 6, 11, 16, 21..

First term is 6. To find the next term, we have to add 5 to the previous term.

So, the expression for the nth term of this sequence is given below:

a_n=a_(n-1)+5
