Easy, find a number you can divide 42 and 48 by, which is 6.
÷
42/6=7
48/6=8
So,
simplified is,

42/48
Simply divide, so, 42/2 = 21, and 48/2 = 24
21/3 = 7, and 24/3 = 8
7/8 = 42/48
Simplified form would be :
7/8
