Trade association groups are organizations whose members are involved in the business of a specific industry that advocate and collaborate to meet their interests. Although the activities of a trade organization vary, in general, they aim to develop commercial and industrial opportunities, to voice publicly the views of members and to make policies that benefit the common interests of that specific industry.
And that is what The Motion Picture Association of America does, this organization operates in the global film and television industry to works toward the industry's interests.
It performs activities that ensure the viability of the American film industry: it promotes effective copyright protection and curbs copyright infringement, reduces piracy, expands market access, protects the creative and artistic freedoms of authors, provides with film rating system which classifies films according to the suitability for audiences in order to inform parents if a film is appropriate for their children or not, among others activities.
It consists of the 7 major members of the film and television industry: Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Netflix Inc., Paramount Pictures Corporation, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation, Universal City Studios LLC, and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
