A possible reason for the decline could be a decrease in the available water. The basic nutrient of plants is water, as the substance that they use to live are made of substance in water plus solar energy. If one of these two factors experiments a decline, this could be a reason for the decline of plant as well. Obviously the decline of plants then will have a multitudine of other effects on the ecosystem.
