A farmhouse shelters 10 animals. Some are pigs and some are ducks. Altogether there are 36 legs. How many of each animal are there?

Your Task:

1. Represent this problem with a system of equations. Solve the system and explain how its solution relates to the pigs and ducks.

2. Represent this problem with tables and a graph. (Click here for graph paper, if you can print) (Links to an external site.). Identify how the solution to this problem appears on the graph.

3. Name the x- and y-intercepts for the line representing the number of animals.

4. Name the x- and y-intercepts for the line representing the number of legs.

5. Where do the graphs intersect each other.
