Rust on weathered rocks is caused by oxidation. Oxidation, the dehydrogenation using oxygen, may result to rusting. Saltation relates to taxonomy; Hydrolysis, relates to cellular respiration among living organisms; and Abrasion is the result of something being rubbed or scraped.
