Try this. First subtract 2 from each side. Then multiply each side by 4. I think you'll be thrilled and delighted.

(a)/(4)+2=6\ \ \ \ \ |subtract\ 2\ from\ both\ sides\\\\(a)/(4)=4\ \ \ \ \ \ |multiply\ both\ sides\ by\ 4\\\\\boxed{a=16}
