Answer: The sales tax on the purchase is 1.75

Explanation:

Hi, to solve this problem first we have to express the tax rate number in decimals.

So

6 1/2 = 6,5

6,5 / 100 = 0.065

Now, the next step is to multiply the tax rate calculated by the cost of the purchase ($26.99) to obtain the sale tax.

$26.99 x 0.065 = 1.75

So, The sales tax on the purchase is 1.75
