The first way is that they established that the King is not the supreme religious leader and that the King cannot mess with the church of beliefs of the people. This made the country more secular and the king's role more political and less religious and spiritual.
The second is that the power of the king is not unlimited and that he cannot bother his subordinates in any way that he sees fit which was important for deciding taxes and preventing things like cruel and unusual punishment. It established that people get tried more instead of just the king deciding what he wants to do.
