The answer is B. The southern economy was still based on agriculture and cotton, but now depended on sharecropping rather than slave labor
Before the reconstruction, the southern economy rely on slaves labor to operate their plantations. After the reconstruction, they're not allowed to do so, so they had to pay for workers/land operators through sharecropping method.
