The equation y = x^2 has axis of symmetry of x = 0

The answer to the question is y = x^2 + 2 which is y = x^2 moved vertically up to 2 units

Explanation:

Quadratic function has a general function:


y=ax^2+bx+c

And you can calculate the axis of symmetry with:

x1=-b/2a

Then you calculate the axis for each equation:

1. y = x^2 + 2x

x1=-2/(2*1)=-1

2. y = x^2 − 16x + 58

x1=-(-16)/(2*1)=8

3. y = x^2 + 2

notice: you don't have b term

x1=-0/(2*1)=0

4. y = x ^2 − 4x + 2

x1=-(-4)/(2*1)=2
