The directions on a sewing pattern say to cut an extra 12% of fabric to account for error. Chole needs 0.8 yard of fabric to make a skirt, so she cuts 0.096 yard. Did Chole cut the corect amount of fabric? Why or why not?

No she didnt. She needs 12% more of .8 yards.

.8 yards x 12% more = 0.096+.8= 0.896 yards to cut

Answer:

Chloe cut the wrong amount of fabric,

Explanation:

According to the problem, Chloe needs 0.8 yards of fabric to make a skirt. However, they ask her to cut an extra 12%. To find the right answer, we have to calculate the 12% of 0.8, and then sum it with the standard yards for the skirt. That is

0.12(0.8)+0.8=0.096+0.8=0.896 \ yd

This means that Chloe cut the wrong amount of fabric, because she only cut the 12% without adding the initial 0.8 yards.

The right amount of fabric is 0.896 yards.
